Happy New Year.
…or is it?
Thousands dead.
Terrorists or so called

Sui-I-cide bombers.
Mass destruction or deception?
Democracy or Facism.
Me,
Not knowing about either.
Watching murder on the news, saying
“Mmmmmmmmmmmm…what a pity!”

then changing the channel to meet with my urges.

Lust.
Violence.
God invented the Play station 2.

Just like WAR,
Or Call of Duty 4.

Except real people die.
Terrorists.
Or so-called
“brainwashed victims”.

Non-tolerance, highly promoted fear of others,
Tiptoing around others.
And now, the next chapter in my book;
That doesn’t exist.

A new year…
Of Death.
Mayhem.
Destruction.

For which I will TRY to care.
Look into your hearts.
Can you do without your creature comforts?
Like Bed, Robe, TV, Door,
Play station 2,
Call of Duty 4.

Made from a real war.

Happy New Year.
Let’s hope we are at peace with ourselves,
Like I am not,
With me.

Interesting piece Jen, the way it reads is interesting and leaves the impression in my mind of carefully considered perspectives. If that makes any sense to you. I seem to be having trouble communicating lately. But I digress...it's an interesting style and one which I would be interested in seeing more of, not to pressure you though ;P

A bleak and thought-provoking poem, Jenny. Terrorism and the war on Iraq are the issues of our time, so its natural that poets should turn their attention to them. “Mass destruction or deception?” captures, in only a few words, what many people feel about the war on Iraq. “Democracy or Facism. / Me, / Not knowing about either,” also gets at what a lot of us are feeling about the war: we’re overwhelmed, its beyond our understanding. The words “Watching murder on the news...then changing the channel” draw attention to how we feel like we’re unable to do anything about current events, we’re just the viewer, and how truly bizarre it is that we can see war on TV.

Wow Michael, I thought you were dead (seriously lawl) on Da! We shall have to come out and have fun together.

The Call of Duty 4 reference is for people who believe war is like they can see on TV. That's not true. Similarly, there was a case in America where a gamer shot 9 people with 100% accuracy without never having used a gun before.
